Alpine skiing and snowboarding has become immensely popular worldwide.  Understandably as it is exciting, invigorating and healthy and with the freedom of the mountains and beautiful natural conditions makes skiing a wonderful sport to enjoy.  It can be enjoyed by all ages and with the correct equipment can be enjoyed safely whatever your preferred method of coming down the mountain.

Different types of skiing involve your 'normal' skis, carving skis with their wider shovels and tails, but still narrower at the waist have become very popular, Nordic skiing also known as 'cross country skiing' where the skis are a lot slimmer and have a flexible binding that allows the heel to come off the ski to allow hiking or running across the snow.  Telemark skiing can also be seen on the slopes which look similar to the Nordic skis as slim and allow the heel to lift off the ski used downhill.  Mono boards may also be seen with both feet together fixed firmly via the bindings on one board.  Snowboarding which is one of the fastest growing winter sports uses one wider board standing with a more sideways stance similar to surf boarding or skateboarding, these snowboards use a different type binding and more flexible snow boots.

Obtaining the correct skis takes your ability and weight into consideration and the type of skiing you prefer.  For example piste skiing, off piste in the powder, slalom and downhill racing.  There are many types and makes of skis, for the best ski to meet your individual needs, it is best to either hire or buy from a reputable ski shop.

Again for snowboards it depends on your ability and type of boarding you will be doing whether it is piste, powder or in the snow parks, still hire or buy from a reputable ski shop is recommended.

Proper fitting ski boots are essential to keep your feet and ankles comfortable and supported, must not be too tight but must firmly support your ankles. This will also depend on your ability as beginners boots tend to be softer to allow more forward movement.

Ski poles height is calculated by standing up straight with your arm bent at 90 degrees holding the pole so they touch the floor.

Ski clothing needs to be warm, breathable and normally wind and water proof for your salopettes, jacket and gloves, Gore-Tex is a popular material for the mountains.  Long ski socks that are slightly thicker on the front and come up above the height of the boots and a warm hat for the colder days are also required.  Gloves need to have a Thinsulate lining with either leather or Gore-Tex material.  If you feel the cold then thermal under garments are recommended.

Ski goggles and sunglasses are essential to reduce the glare from the snow and sun, and harmful rays from the sun.  Bolle make ski goggles and sunglasses for different levels of ability, and of course the sunglasses can be worn for summer activities too.  Bolle ski goggles have double skin lenses made of polycarbonate which is strong and flexible to avoid fogging with triple layer face foam to assist the flow of air and for comfort with Bolle's air booster system and flow-tech venting.

Bolle also make ski helmets with a range for juniors and adults, which are becoming more popular as a safety measure even for normal piste skiing.

I have been skiing for about 20 years and firmly believe good equipment like Bolle ski goggles or Bolle ski glasses make a difference when I am skiing, not only for the comfort but also stops the glare of the sun and snow.
